Custom Workholding Fixtures Design & Engineering

DMT works to become an extension of your engineering team.  We bring our years of experience and innovative design strategies to your project resulting in the most robust, repeatable, and reliable fixtures possible. Our design and engineering team’s experience eliminates many typical startup issues that occur. As a partner with our customer’s team, we conduct an exhaustive evaluation of your process to set a strong foundation that leads to predictable implementation and startup.

At DMT our Engineering and Manufacturing teams are fully integrated ensuring clear communication and exacting results for every fixture build. This level of collaboration results in the flawless execution of the design plans, freeing up your project managers to focus on other elements of the project during the workholding fixture build details.

At DMT WORKHOLDING we pride ourselves in having the best custom workholding fixtures engineering and design team in the industry. Our team is committed to delivering the best workholding fixture for your needs. This process starts in the concept engineering phase. Our concept engineers build detailed, custom quotes based on your project needs so you get a usable, reliable quote for your project budget. The concept phase is critical to the quoting process by ensuring relevance to the quote and a more predictable process during the design phase. Our collaborative process also assists you in designing the best possible fixture for your project.

We consider all design elements including automation, cutting tools, and machining centers specifications to ensure issues and conflicts are understood and resolved in the concept phase.

Once we are awarded the project, our Design Engineering team takes the Concept Engineering designs and your input to create the final fixture design. We engage with you to get “the rest of the story” i.e. tooling, machine specifics, part loading (end of arm tooling), casting attributes, and pressure specs. Taking these elements, adding all of our experience, know-how, and engineering practices, and incorporating your workholding culture results in the most robust fixture design and eliminates production conflicts. Once approved, the project moves into our manufacturing department.

Premier Craftsmanship

We put craftsmanship above all. Every morning we have over 200 years of workholding manufacturing experience on our production floor. With a healthy mix of journeymen and apprentices working side by side, our team has seen just about everything there is to see in custom workholding fixtures. We program everything using 3D modeling and integrate our proprietary practices proven over years of manufacturing to deliver you the gold standard in custom workholding fixtures.

Automation Migration

The transition from manual machining processes to automated machining processes can be frustrating and filled with pitfalls. Fixturing is one of the most critical elements to this transition. Count on our team to offer guidance, insight, and expert engineering to ensure your move from manual loading to automated loading goes as smoothly as possible. With our experience in a variety of designs and part-sensing solutions, we have helped numerous clients with this transition and updated their workholding fixtures to deliver the productivity gains expected.

  • It’s not necessarily always cost.  Sometimes it comes down to KNOWING a company can do the job, and that’s why we’ll go to DMT for the most complex jobs.

    Jon B.
  • Fixtures represent about 10-15% of the value of the project but can be major headaches if it’s wrong. …DMT’s is our partner and are great for large parts, heavy parts – heavy duty. For us they work well for customers like caterpillar.

  • DMT is Turnkey and integration.  If we need a total system, then most other suppliers drop off the list.  They know how to design and build the full realm of a system.  They have good technology, innovation and they’re easy to work with.

    Charlie U.
  • DMT's greatest strength is versatility; their ability to take on an entire project--from design to implementation--and their ability to integrate with our other pieces of equipment. They truly understand the project and demonstrate that ability by doing what they said they would.

    Mike M.
  • DMT was selected by our OEM supplier, but once we saw their work we liked it. They know machining. They understand CNC. There is no learning curve. Cost is important but time and quality is even more critical. I stick with people I can trust.

    Jim L.
  • One thing that sets DMT apart is the amount of detail they provide. They’re really good at that. You’ll get a higher quality fixture. They’re good people who know their stuff.

  • What matters most when selecting a workholding company is seeing their work and knowing in advance how they’re going to support you. …There is no one else who does what DMT does as well as they do.

    Joe S.
  • We choose to work with DMT because of the quality of their products and their design capabilities.  When you work with DMT you know it’s going to turn out right.  You can count on what you are going to get.

    Craig H.
  • Our experience is that DMT is a terrific supplier and their people are highly skilled, professional, and customer driven. We see DMT as a benchmark supplier.
